Group Team Members
Elizabeth Bilham
Group Lead VolunteerElizabeth started scouting back in 2001 as a Scout, volunteering at the Cub Section as a Young leader at aged 15 and has never looked back. Becoming the Cub Scout Leader at aged 18 in 2009, with a wealth of experience in running a section and delivering a programme to young people, she is a great help to other leaders in the group. Lizzie has recently taken on the Role of GSL, running of the group and management of adults in the team.

Board of Trustees
Mark Wisby
ChairMark has been involved for many years as a parent of two highly active boys within the group. He recently stepped up to the challenge of taking on leading the executive committee as Chair in late 2019, taking the lead in focusing the committee on fundraising, safety, and governance. The Group Chairman works closely with the Group Scout Leader and lead all of those who provide help and support to the Group in other ways.
Neil Haughey
SecretaryNeil has been a part of the group as a parent, and the occasional call for help and volunteer for fundraising for several years, while his wife supplies the leaders with the food of life, cake! He has recently taken on the role of Secretary in late 2019 and is responsible for arranging meetings, keeping minutes, sending agendas, as well as keeping all the important paperwork together!
Ben Hardcastle
TreasurerBen has been in scouting since he was 6, starting as a Beaver, and has been a member of the 2nd Bognor team since he joined as a Young Leader in 2014. After turning 18 Ben moved to London to study a degree in Mathematics at Imperial College London. Ben has taken on the role of Group Treasurer in later part of 2019, as it is a role he can do remotely from London; has been an invaluable member of the Executive Committee since.

Susan Shimell
Notable Committee MemberSue started her scouting journey in 1965 as a Cub Scout Leader, she has taken the role of GSL for 2nd Bognor from 1999-2012 and then from 2015 – 2021.
Dedicating most of her life to bringing high quality scouting to young people in 2nd, helping to shape many young people’s futures. Sue’s role in the Group is to manage the fundraising efforts of a team to help support the delivery of Scouting to the young people.

Scout Section
Daniel Southgate
Team Lead Volunteer ScoutsNathan Bilham
Team Member ScoutsNathan started scouts in 2nd Bognor Beavers at aged 6, he continued his way through the youth sections. He became a Young Leader at 14 volunteering at 11th Bognor Beavers and then at 2nd Scouts later. Once he turned 18, Nathan took on an adult role in the Scout section and later becoming the Section leader. Nathan is also a fully qualified Duke of Edinburgh Supervisor and Assessor and has many practical skills in the outdoors and is a member of the Hampshire Mountaineering Association, with a strong love of adventure. Nathan’s role is to plan and deliver a balanced and engaging programme for the Scout section with his team.

Sue Woodruff
Team Member ScoutsSue or her alter ego known as ‘Fun Mum’ has been an active part the group for many years with all 4 of her children making their way through the group. She was once known as the Super Occasional Helper for many years, helping on evenings, trips and camps but finally was convinced to join the Blue Shirt Team! Sue’s role is to provide help and support to the Scout section and Nathan.

Jack Penfold
Team Member CubsJack started scouting in Aldwick and Pagham Cubs aged 8 and progressed through Scouts and Explorers. Turning 18 he started volunteering at Aldwick and Pagham Cubs but soon transferred to help at 2nd Cubs. He has been a massive part of the team since, with his morale boosting antics he keeps the rest of the team on their toes. Jack has a love for all thing physical exercise inclined, shown by his marathon running, 100-mile cycle rides and helping organise the Scout Junior Park Run takeover. Jack helps run the Cub Scout Section and his evenings are always a highlight.

Jean Mitchell
Sectional AssistantJean, also fondly known as “Baggy” has been in Scouting for a little while. Starting back in 1986 as an Assistant Cub Scout Leader in Aldwick and Pagham and has been heavily involved with the group and all over Bognor Scouts for many years. She has recently started a new journey with us at 2nd and we are thrilled to have her on board.

Claire Mills (Bear)
Beaver Scout LeaderClaire joined the team in 2021, after a head dive into Scouting life at Summer Camp. Having moved to Bognor in recent years and her two children being involved in the group she has found a love for all things Beaver Scout related! Claire’s role is to make sure the team is working well together to deliver a high quality programme for our thriving Beaver Colony
Conrad Waller (Ant)
Sectional AssistantConrad is new to the team joining in 2022 but is quickly becoming our guy for all things hands on. Conrad started scouting as a scout back in childhood and after a break has come back to the movement. A lover of adventure, and a big kid at heart he is getting stuck in with his role and fits right in with the beavers!

Claire Bourner (Mowgli)
Squirrel Scout LeaderClaire started her Scouting journey at 2nd Bognor Scouts and she has been a integral part of the group since. Volunteering as a Young Leader with the Cubs in her late teens, she then took on the role of Assistant Cub leader to Lizzie when she turned 18. Stepping up to become the Beaver Leader later on, Claire took a break in ‘front line scouting’ taking on an admin role for the last few years, whilst she completed her degree.
Claire is back and ready to be the 1st ever Squirrel leader in Bognor and we’re thrilled she’s back to launch our Drey!

Katherine started her Scouting journey at 11th Bognor Cubs aged 8, moved to 2nd Bognor for Scouts and finished at Tsunami ESU. Volunteering as a Young Leader at 2nd Bognor Beavers, Scouts then settling at Cubs, once she turned 18 in 2013, took up the role of Assistant Cub Scout Leader at 2nd Bognor. Katherine continued to help run the section up until end of 2019 at which point, after 6 years, she stepped down to take on other roles. Katherine role in the group is an occasional helper and can be seen on most camps as she has a lot of experience running residential experiences and expeditions.

Tom Weaver
QuartermasterTom grew up close to scouting with his Dad “Bosun” taking on the role of the Group Quartermaster while Tom was still learning to crawl; his mum Jo spending time helping the Cub Section till 2012. Tom started in Beavers and went all the way through to Scouts in 2nd completing his scouting at Tsunami ESU. Taking on a leadership role at aged 18 at 1st Felpham Sea Scouts and later Tsunami ESU. His role in the group is to look after the equipment and making sure it is kept in good condition to make sure it can be used by as many young people as possible!

Lucy Budge
Group Occasional HelperLucy started scouting in 1st South Bersted Scouts in 2012 and carried on her journey at Tsunami ESU, she became a Young Leader at 2nd Bognor first at Beavers, then settled at Cubs. She has been a brilliant member of the Cub team since. She has been an adult leader since 2018 and has had first-hand experience in International Scouting, attending Roverway 2018 in The Netherlands. With a love for the outdoors Lucy set off on a new adventure in September 2021, travelling the country and Europe in her self-converted campervan, she will appear occasionally back from her travels to help, but hopes to help run Gold DofE for the Explorers going forward…just got to get those mountain days in!
